Disaster Unemployment Assistance
South Carolina has begun the recovery phase from Hurricane Matthew. As part of that, the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) is here to help individuals get back to work.
If you have lost your job as a direct result of Hurricane Matthew, you may be eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA). DUA benefits are funded by the federal government to assist after a disaster. As part of that assistance, DEW administers funds to individuals who have lost their job because a business was damaged or closed during the hurricane.
Once the storm damage has been assessed and a disaster declaration has been made for a county, individuals have 30 calendar days to file for benefits.
