DEW Executive Director Cheryl Stanton’s Statement

November 2016 Employment Situation

“South Carolina’s workforce is at record levels – and growing every month. Our citizens are reaping the benefits as the state’s existing businesses grow and new jobs come to South Carolina. As the Federal Reserve has recently acknowledged, to stay on pace with our robust growth we must continue to develop our pool of skilled workers,” said Cheryl Stanton, executive director of the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce. “In the last month alone, nearly 8,000 people found work, bringing South Carolina’s labor statistics to levels not seen since 2001. But it is not time to rest – we must continue to develop our workforce for the 59,000 jobs that are currently available across the state, and those other jobs coming soon.”

The South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce is putting South Carolinians to work. The agency invests in building a pipeline of quality workers, matches workers with jobs, and is a bridge for individuals who find themselves out of work for no fault of their own. This promotes financial stability and economic prosperity for employers, individuals and communities. SCDEW is dedicated to advancing South Carolina through services that meet the needs of the state’s businesses, jobseekers and those looking to advance their careers.
