DEW Executive Director Cheryl Stanton’s Statement
February 2017 Employment Statement
“It is exciting to see that nearly 11,000 of the more than 12,000 people entering the labor force had found work, that is four out of every five people and that is something to celebrate. The economy in South Carolina is robust as businesses continue to grow and expand here, and more and more people are feeling optimistic about opportunities available to them in South Carolina,” said Cheryl Stanton, executive director of the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce. “We do have more work to do. We need to help match the 103,000 unemployed with the jobs available across the state.”
The S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) is putting South Carolinians to work. The agency invests in building a pipeline of quality workers, matches workers with jobs, and is a bridge for individuals who find themselves out of work for no fault of their own. This promotes financial stability and economic prosperity for employers, individuals and communities. DEW is dedicated to advancing South Carolina through services that meet the needs of the state’s businesses, jobseekers and those looking to advance their careers.
