The 2022 Workforce Symposium Offers Insight on Statewide Workforce Challenges and Solutions

The S.C. Chamber of Commerce and the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce join forces to provide in-depth presentations and panel discussions about South Carolina’s job market.

Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce (SC Chamber) and the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) have partnered together to host the Workforce Symposium tomorrow, October 4, 2022, in Greenville, South Carolina. The event will take place from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM and feature presentations by the SC Chamber, S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce Executive Director Dan Ellzey, and notable business leaders from across the state.

The Workforce Symposium is an annual event devoted to unpacking South Carolina’s most crucial workforce challenges, including retention of skilled labor, recruitment, and training. In addition, the event will feature a visit from the Be Pro Be Proud SC mobile workshop trailer equipped with hands-on, skilled trade simulators to inspire a new generation of professionals to join the skilled trade workforce.

Executive Director Dan Ellzey will give a presentation on “The Future of Work, Jobs, and Skills,” which provides labor force demographics, industry projections, training needs, and more on the future of the workforce, including the creation of new jobs in the growing fields of robotics and cybersecurity.

“As always, we are honored to work alongside the Chamber of Commerce to host this event. Our goal for the Workforce Symposium is to provide innovative, solution-driven workforce development opportunities that will help businesses build a strong talent pipeline while helping South Carolinians find work,“ said S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce Executive Director Dan Ellzey. “This event is a touchstone for companies to connect with government officials, educators, and other business professionals while learning about the critical services our agency offers to enhance the workforce.”

“The Workforce Symposium has grown in participation, public attention, and overall purpose throughout the years, and we could not be more excited for the Chamber and DEW to share our wealth of knowledge to support businesses,” states SC Chamber President and CEO Bob Morgan. “Not only are we data-oriented and educating attendees about the job market, but we are also discussing the role of mental health in the workplace, the role of diversity in expanding the workforce, what is corporate leadership, how to retain employees, and so much more. This event is all-encompassing and an example of the good that comes from prioritizing South Carolina businesses and workers.”
