DEW Executive Director Cheryl Stanton’s Statement
March 2018 Employment Statement
“More and more people are entering the workforce as businesses continue to add a record number of jobs and hiring a record number of South Carolinians – and this something to celebrate,” said Cheryl Stanton, executive director of the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce. “As we work to remove barriers to employment, we have found that investing in the education of many of the state’s high school students who are at risk of dropping out helps provide businesses with a needed workforce. Through Jobs for America’s Graduates-SC program, we are seeing around 97 percent of the students in this program graduate. It is keeping them in school and providing them with purpose and passion. And this also is reason to celebrate.”
About DEW
The S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) is putting South Carolinians to work. The agency invests in building a pipeline of quality workers, matches workers with jobs, and is a bridge for individuals who find themselves out of work for no fault of their own. This promotes financial stability and economic prosperity for employers, individuals and communities. DEW is dedicated to advancing South Carolina through services that meet the needs of the state’s businesses, jobseekers and those looking to advance their careers.
