"I started in this field working for a landscaping company. It was actually a part-time job that I had in high school. I liked being outside and the money was good, so when I finished school my boss let me start full time. The best part about that job was being able to travel to different locations and homes. Everything can be so vastly different just one neighborhood away.

I was also able to train under the landscaping professional who designed everything from retaining walls, lighting, and ponds to the grass, trees, mulch, and flowers. By really learning all I could from him, I was able to get the experience I needed for my current job. While it is really different helping maintain the grounds of one location, I like seeing how the landscape grows, adapts, and changes each year."

Workers typically perform a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, sprinkler installation, and installation of mortarless segmental concrete masonry wall units.*
