“Did you know that South Carolina exports more tires than any other state? I love springing that stat on people. It makes me proud to be part of an industry that leads the nation! The work I do literally keeps the country rolling. And then, I like to tell people about the different kinds of tires. Most people just think about cars and forget about the earth-mover tires. That’s my specialty. There is a lot of math and physics that goes into perfecting the design of tires and the “technology” just gets better all the time. There is a great deal of what we do that is very secretive. The designs are specific to ensure the tire performs a certain way. It is a cool job that is very unexpected.”

Tire Builders operate machines to build tires. This is primarily done by building semi-raw rubber treads
onto buffed tire casings to prepare tires for the recapping or retreading processes, as well as placing tires
into molds for new treads.*
