DEW Welcomes a New Chief of Staff, William Floyd
Columbia, S.C. – The S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) is excited to announce William H. Floyd, III, as the agency’s new Chief of Staff. Floyd comes to DEW from the Nexsen Pruet law firm where he was a partner and a leader in its Labor and Employment Practice Group. Floyd, a Certified Labor and Employment Law Specialist and former chair of the South Carolina Labor and Employment Section of the South Carolina Bar, brings to DEW more than 35 years of experience handling complex labor and employment matters for some of the state’s most renowned employers. Floyd’s leadership and extensive experience are tremendous assets to help lead the agency’s effort to build and support an effective, customer-driven workforce system for employers, individuals, and communities throughout the state.
Floyd has a strong record of service to the state and his community. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the SC Technical College System and the Society for Human Resources Management, Columbia Chapter. He also serves his state and country as a Colonel in the South Carolina State Guard. As Chief of Staff, Floyd’s commitment to public service will anchor his work assisting Executive Director Dan Ellzey as he continues to chart the course for the agency.
“I am excited to begin full-time public service with the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce, particularly in a time of great innovation and progress,” states Chief of Staff William Floyd. “DEW is an essential, resilient agency as ably demonstrated throughout the pandemic, and I am honored to join its team of professionals devoted to serving our state.”
“It is terrific news to have William on board knowing the caliber of his work and of his character,” said Executive Director Dan Ellzey. “His professionalism is unmatched and his illustrious career in labor and employment will undeniably benefit the agency and assist us in continuously improving the programs and services that we offer South Carolinians. I look forward to this new chapter of leadership and the successes that we will achieve together.”
