DEW Executive Director Cheryl Stanton’s Statement

April 2018 Employment Statement

“South Carolina’s businesses are hiring and have put a record number of people to work across the state, and that is reason to celebrate. But we have more work to do to prepare those unemployed for today’s workforce,” said Cheryl Stanton, executive director of the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce. “A recent Pew Research Center study showed that roughly 1-in-10 people don’t have functional knowledge of how to use a computer and that is keeping them behind. The State Workforce Development Board recently awarded $225,000 for the development of programs to improve the computer literacy skills for those in need so they too can participate in today’s robust and changing workplace.”
