February 2024 Employment Situation

Columbia, S.C. – “South Carolina’s strong economy produced steady numbers in February 2024. Employers reported adding approximately 4,400 jobs for the month, and the state’s unemployment rate ticked up slightly to 3.1%,” said S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) Executive Director William Floyd. “With an approximate gain of 500 people in Manufacturing; 2,000 in Trade, Transportation, and Utilities; and 1,500 in Leisure and Hospitality, the economy continues to grow and so does the workforce.”

“For South Carolinians who are looking for a new job or hoping to upgrade their current career, our SC Works centers have representatives ready to help, but you can also virtually connect with employers through the SC Works Online Services (SCWOS) system, through Connection Points located in large and small communities, or by visiting the SC Works Career Coach when it is nearby,” said Floyd.

“Our team regularly works with employers to post jobs and search resumes to find new employees. There is even an alert option for employers to notify them when a jobseeker has created an account that includes the skills needed for one of their available jobs. Make sure to take advantage of this valuable job-seeking resource at jobs.scworks.org,” continued Floyd.

“There are many ways we can help connect jobseekers and employers so do not hesitate to reach out to your local SC Works Center to find out about our services as well as resources that can be personalized for a jobseeker or an employer’s goals,” concluded Floyd.
