“I really had no idea what I wanted to do for a career, and I had never heard of a CNC Machinist before.
I just happened to be at a job fair where my company had a booth. I stopped by to ask about office jobs since I could type, but as I was talking with their hiring person, I realized this was a job that paid more and that I could do!

It’s basically learning computer software so that you can run computer numerical control, CNC, equipment to move tools and machinery in a factory. I did have to get some training, both in a classroom and at work, but my company had a program that helped pay for that. I could work and get my certification at the same time. It’s really pretty amazing that I fell into a job that is so perfect for my skills.”

metal. Includes precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. May
also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying
knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.*
